A New Beginning for

Ms. Gladys and Squirt

When Intown Cares Homeless Services Case Manager Johnathon first met Ms. Gladys in June 2025, she had been navigating homelessness off and on for several years. Alongside the challenges of finding stable housing, she was also living with depression and anxiety — often reaching moments of deep discouragement.

“I would meet her during those low points,” Johnathon shared. “I would remind her that hope is still possible and that we were going to keep working toward stability together.”

Through ongoing support from our Homeless Services team, Ms. Gladys began to rebuild her foundation. Working with our partner Mercy Care and our Clinical Program Manager, Franco, she was able to register her beloved dog, Squirt, as an emotional support animal — an important step for her mental health and sense of companionship.

After months of persistence and partnership, Ms. Gladys and Squirt recently moved into their new home at Winwood Apartments, a Permanent Supportive Housing facility.

Now, with a safe place to rest and call her own, Ms. Gladys looks forward to focusing on her mental and physical health and working part-time as she continues setting new goals for the future.

Her story is a powerful reminder that progress takes time, care, and community — and that hope truly grows when we walk alongside our neighbors.
